Tales from the Skull 💀 – a funny horror YT Shorts series

My side project with a YouTube silver button

This is the story of how a small hobby evolved into a popular YouTube channel. It all began in 2023. While working in 3DS Max, I felt an urge to get my hands dirty and create something interesting in 3D. After careful consideration, I decided to launch a YouTube channel featuring short videos in the YT Shorts format.

To make the idea a success, I researched YouTube trends and identified a niche that combined horror and cringe content. This combination, which is particularly appealing to children of the Alpha generation, would provide a unique and engaging viewing experience.

Drawing inspiration from my childhood passion for drawing skulls, I modeled a skull in Zbrush and created a looping animation in 3DS Max.

I then established a YouTube channel called Tales from the Skull, referencing the book Tales from the Loop by Simon StÃĨlenhag.

Thus was born Tales from the Skull, a viral YouTube series consisting of short videos featuring a skull. In fact, the virality of the channel came as a big surprise to me. Some videos started getting tens of millions of views and hundreds of thousands of likes. The channel quickly became popular, with over 100 thousand subscribers and over 100 million views. As a result, I received a silver button from YouTube, a significant accomplishment for a personal project.

A brand from scratch

I continue to dedicate time to developing the Tales from the Skull series. These videos have not only become a personal hobby but also a valuable addition to my portfolio. They align well with the work of my children's marketing agency, Bobaka, and demonstrate my ability to create engaging characters and stories that resonate with a wide audience.
