Augmented reality inside Moscow’s biggest cinema

In 2010, Aero was approached by Alexey Bokov, a renowned Moscow event producer. His team was organizing the annual partner forum for STS TV, where the channel's management would announce new projects and share statistics.

Alexey's team sought to add a touch of innovation to the traditional event format by incorporating augmented reality elements into the video presentation. At the time, augmented reality technology was relatively new, and its potential for the event industry was uncertain.

The concept involved capturing a live camera feed of the stage area, projecting it onto a large screen above the stage, and adding real-time augmented 3D elements. These elements included analytical figures that appeared to come to life as the presenter discussed them.

But a particularly striking aspect of the presentation was the use of AR animals that the host could interact with. This innovative use of augmented reality technology later influenced my work on another project, BirdieEyes.
